Administration

The Sheriff's Office administrative section is responsible managing the day-to-day operation of the office and providing general administrative support including hiring, training and discipline, background investigations, payroll, purchasing, internal investigations, automation and budget related functions. Furthermore, section directs research and development of policies, procedures and regulations to meet professional standards developed for law enforcement agencies and active in collaborating with other agencies and groups within our community for proactive law enforcement.

Law Enforcement

The Law Enforcement Section, in addition to the patrol of 1,000 linear miles of improved county roads, lakes, residences and businesses, it provides emergency response, traffic enforcement, drug interdiction, courthouse security, civil process service, criminal investigations and warrant executions.

The section also transports inmates to and from the court system or facilities operated by the state or other counties; and routinely handle juvenile and mental health transports to and from various facilities throughout the state and region. During a critical situation in the jail, the section also provides additional manpower or security.

Detention

The Detention section, responsible for the intake and release process of about 1,500 prisoners each year, is the single largest component of the Nolan County Sheriff's Office. The section administers the county jail facility and provides detention services for law enforcement agencies throughout Nolan County, housing local, county, state, and federal inmates of both pre-trial and convicted status.

Under the leadership of Jail Administrator , the mission of the Detention section is to safeguard the community by ensuring the security, protection, and welfare of those individuals incarcerated within. With the utilization of state-of-the-art computer technology, this section ensures that a case record is established for each individual committed to the facility, and that inmates are referred to the appropriate programs to promote and enhance rehabilitation.

In addition, the section will ensure the humane care and control of the inmate population through supervision of meals, recreation, programs, visitation and other daily activities. Other responsibilities include providing medical, dental and mental health services for inmates, the enforcement of security rules, regulations and procedures, the provision of services and information to inmates and coordinating inmate work in areas such as commissary, laundry room, ground maintenance, custodial duties, and a variety of off-site details.
