{"id":2417,"date":"2019-10-23T16:50:35","date_gmt":"2019-10-23T22:50:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nolanso.com\/wordpress\/?p=2417"},"modified":"2019-10-23T16:50:37","modified_gmt":"2019-10-23T22:50:37","slug":"civil-process-scam-alert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nolanso.com\/wordpress\/civil-process-scam-alert\/","title":{"rendered":"Civil Process Scam Alert"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Wednesday, October 23, 2109, the Nolan County Sheriff\u2019s\nOffice received a telephone call from a concerned citizen, who told us that\nthey just received a telephone call from someone claiming to work for the\n\u201cNolan County Civil Department.\u201d The concerned citizen went on to say that\ntheir caller ID displayed \u201cNolan County Sheriff\u2019s Office.\u201d The concerned\ncitizen told us that they were suspicious, almost immediately, for several\nreasons. The concerned citizen said that the caller spoke with an accent that\nwas very hard to understand. Thankfully this concerned citizen listened to\ntheir instincts and called us to verify the legitimacy of the call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We informed the concerned citizen that we had no civil\npapers for them. We want to remind you all that we do not call people to inform\nthem of a warrant, of civil process, or any other legal process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This phone call was a SCAM, and the Nolan County Sheriff\u2019s\nOffice telephone number was \u201cspoofed.\u201d These con artists are very sophisticated\nand had the technology to make it appear that they are actually calling from\nour phone number. When these scammers get you on the phone, they will tell you\nthat you have a warrant or civil papers, but then \u201cgive you a chance to pay the\nfine\/fee\u201d over the phone. They may ask for a credit\/debit card, or they may ask\nyou to send the money via Western Union\/Money Gram, or they may ask you to\npurchase a pre-paid money card and send it to them. We urge you to contact our\noffice if you receive such a call and definitely don\u2019t give the caller any\npersonal information or payments.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember, if you have a warrant, we will come to you\nunannounced; we will not call you, and if you have civil papers, we will mail\nyou a postcard and then attempt to serve those papers to you at home, where we\nwill leave a door hanger, if you&#8217;re not home when we come.
