Johnson graduates from the WCTCOG Law Enforcement Academy; Class #92

IMG_3548Congratulations to the West Central Texas Council of Governments (WCTCOG) Law Enforcement Academy Graduating Class #92. Today, Monday, August 17, 2015, members of the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office were in attendance to support Brandon Johnson as he graduated.

Johnson (center), pictured with Sheriff David Warren (r) and Chief Deputy David McDonald, is a current employee assigned to the jail section as a county jailer, has expressed his interest in becoming a deputy in the patrol section. After successfully completing seven long months of intensive training at the WCTCOG training facility that consists of lecture halls, tactical training rooms, mock street scenes and much more, he and the rest of his classmates have earned the title of Texas Peace Officer.

Mr. Johnson, we are incredibly proud of your accomplishment; as you graduate, a new world awaits, where you will be tested and challenged with the reward of making a difference. Congratulations on your graduation and best wishes in your law enforcement career!

Traffic stop leads to an arrest, seizure of methamphetamine, a firearm and ammunition

ROGERS, RYAN CASEYOn Thursday, August 13, 2015, at approximately 10:35pm, a minor traffic infraction prompted the stop of a Honda coupe in Sweetwater that led to seizure of suspected methamphetamine, paraphernalia used in its consumption, a weapon, ammunition and the arrest of a Sweetwater man.

A Nolan County deputy stopped a blue Honda for a minor traffic violation in the 200 block of Cedar, Sweetwater. Contact was made with the driver who was accompanied by passenger Ryan Rogers, of Sweetwater. Both men were requested to exit the vehicle where a roadside investigation could be conducted.

Both men were pat down for officer safety, and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia; consent to search the vehicle was requested and received. A search of the vehicle was conducted which lead to the discovery of a loaded firearm, concealed underneath the passenger seat and a magazine loaded with ammunition.

Rogers who was found to be a convicted felon was arrested and transported to the Nolan County jail where he was charged with the felony offense of unlawful possession of firearm by felon.

During the roadside investigation, the deputy had observed a great deal of movement by Rogers while seated in the patrol vehicle. After removing Rogers from the vehicle and releasing him to jail staff, a search of the rear cabin area was conducted where a container filled with suspected methamphetamine was discovered. Rogers will also be charged with the felony offense of possession of methamphetamine. The case will be filed with the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

RodriguezThe Nolan County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for Robert Garza Rodriguez, a fugitive who has an outstanding felony warrant issued out of the 32nd Judicial District Court in Nolan County for Tampering with Physical Evidence with the Intent to Impair an Investigation. The Nolan County Sheriff’s Office needs your help to bring Rodriguez to justice. He is a 43 year-old Hispanic male, 6’, 240 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. At the time of his last arrest, he reported to reside at 209 West Louisiana, but is also known to reside at 906 West 3rd Street, Sweetwater.

Fugitive – Armed and Dangerous

TrevinoThe Nolan County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for Jorge Cuellar Trevino Jr., a fugitive that is known to be carrying firearms, and should be considered armed and dangerous. Trevino who has been hiding to avoid detection by law enforcement has an outstanding felony warrant issued out of the 32nd Judicial District Court in Nolan County for Assault Family Violence/Family Member with Previous Convictions. Trevino also has outstanding warrants issued out of Andrews County. The Nolan County Sheriff’s Office needs your help to bring Trevino to justice. He is a 34 year-old Hispanic male, 5’8″, 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, and last reported to reside at 1010 Pine, Sweetwater. Trevino has also been known to stay at local motels and frequent residences located at 200 Walnut, 508 West Broadway and 1408 Hughes, Sweetwater.

Traffic stop results in the arrest of two women and recovery of stolen vehicle

starOn Friday, July 31, 2015, Nolan County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that resulted in the arrest of two females and recovery of the vehicle.

At approximately 3:25PM, deputies observed a beige Ford Edge parked at a local business in Sweetwater, that matched the description of a stolen vehicle on a “BOLO” (Be on look-out) from Snyder. After running the license plate, a return of “Wanted” confirmed the deputies suspicions.

After waiting a short time, deputies observed the suspects return to the vehicle and leave the business. A traffic stop was then conducted near the intersection of Louisiana and Bowie; three occupants were contacted and detained as a result of the stop. An investigation was then conducted where deputies would learn that Lisa Gonzales, an occupant in the vehicle, to have an outstanding warrant for an unrelated offense. In furtherance of the investigation, it was found that two other suspects were in a nearby residence, located in the 500 block of Bowie, in Sweetwater.

Sweetwater Police and Nolan County Constable’s Office assisted in the traffic stop.

An investigation was then conducted at the said address, where after making contact with the owner, deputies were allowed to enter the residence and later locate two female suspects, both of Snyder. After deputies made contact with the two females, Vanessa Perkins was found to have provided a fictitious name that lead to the discovery of her being a suspect in the Snyder vehicle theft, as well as having outstanding Scurry County felony warrants. Gonzales was arrested for the outstanding warrant; Perkins was arrested for the offense of Fail to Identify Fugitive from Justice.

The recovered property will be released to the Snyder Police Department, who were investigating the vehicle theft.

A traffic stop results in the recovery of stolen property

starOn Thursday, July 30, 2015, Nolan County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on a pick-up truck that resulted in the recovery of stolen property.

At approximately 3:00PM, deputies stopped Laura Honeycutt, who was known to have an expired driver license. After observing a welding machine in the bed of the truck, an investigation developed where deputies then learned that the machine might be stolen. The welding machine was then seized and the investigation continued at a residence located in the 500 block of West Broadway, where suspect Jorge Trevino Jr. was said to be living. Deputies attempted to make contact, only to speak with Trevino, and learned that upon arriving, he had fled the residence through a rear door. The Sweetwater Police Department, Nolan County Constable’s Office and Department of Public Safety joined deputies in a brief search of the area, but Trevino was unable to be located.

The welding machine was then taken to a residence, located in the 200 block of Grape Street, where after being identified by the owner, it was confirmed the welding machine was in fact stolen. The recovered property was released to detectives of the Sweetwater Police Department, who were investigating the theft.
