It was reported that sometime between Tuesday, May 6, 2014 and Friday, May 9, 2014, an unknown person(s) entered the property and used force to enter several buildings, including a residence. Once inside, the thieve(s) took property ranging from hand tools, power tools and firearms. The combined value of the property taken is estimated at approximately $1,000.00.

On Wednesday, May 7, 2014, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Theft that occurred in the 2100 block of Santa Fe Depot Road, in Sweetwater. It was reported that sometime between Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 6:00PM and Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at 6:00PM, an unknown person(s) used force by cutting a chain and took a 4-wheeler ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) that was secured underneath a carport. It was reported that the value of the vehicle is approximately $590.00.

Burglary of Habitation (Sweetwater)

On Friday, May 2, 2014, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Burglary of Habitation that occurred in the 8000 block of County Road 130, in Sweetwater. It was reported that sometime on Sunday, April 20, 2014, at 1:00PM and Monday, May 5, 2014, at 11:00PM, an unknown person(s) used force by cutting sections of fence line to enter the property. Once inside, the thieve(s) entered a habitation and took an air compressor, a laptop computer, two (2) flat screen televisions, a computer monitor, numerous power tools, a rifle with scope and hard case, and a pair of work boots. Also taken during the burglary were two (2) 4-wheelers that were on the property, and a vehicle battery. The combined value of the items taken, as well as damage to the property is estimated at approximately $10,875.00.

Theft (Sweetwater)

On Wednesday, April 30, 2014, deputies with the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a Theft that occurred in the 100 block of Wildwind, in Sweetwater. A preliminary investigation was conducted, and it was found that sometime between 8:00AM and 5:15PM, an unknown person(s) entered the property and took a black single axle utility trailer from the property. It was reported that the trailer is valued at approximately $800.00.

Theft (Roscoe)

On Tuesday, April 22, 2014, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Theft that occurred at a cellular tower site in the 100 block of Farm to Market Road 1230, in Roscoe. It was reported that sometime between Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at 10:00AM and Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 2:30PM, an unknown person(s) entered the fenced property. Once inside, the thieve(s) cut, and took 72 feet of copper. The combined value of the property taken, as well as damage to the property is estimated at approximately $1,000.00.

One Ring Scam

If you receive a call from area code 876 (Jamaica) – Do not call back (unless you know the caller/number and are expecting the call.)

The 473 area code has been linked to a form of telephone fraud known as the “one ring scam”. The person perpetuating the scam calls the victim via a robodialer or similar means, sometimes at odd hours of the night, then hangs up when the phone is answered with the hope that the victim will be curious enough to call the number back. When the victim does this, an automatic $19.95 international call fee is charged to their account, as well as $9.00/min thereafter. Similar scams have been linked to Grenada (area code 473), Antigua (area code 268), Jamaica (area code 876), the Dominican Republic (area code 809) and the British Virgin Islands (area code 284).

The claims in the warnings are valid. Alerts about the scam have been issued by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), as well as the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Attorney General’s Office in several US states.
