Theft (Champion)

On Monday August 13, 2012, at about 1:00PM, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a theft that took place at the West Texas Rock Resources yard located at county road 140, in Champion. It was reported that sometime between Friday, August 10, 2012, at 3:00PM and Monday, August 13, 2012, at 7:30AM, an unknown person(s) used force by cutting a cable to enter the property. Once inside, the thieve(s) took a toolbox containing various tools, and a set of jack stands from the bed of a pickup truck, and a toolbox containing various tools from the bed of another pickup truck. The combined value of the items taken is estimated at approximately $3,540.00.

Burglary of Habitation (Blackwell)

On Monday August 13, 2012, at about 6:46PM, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary that took place at a residence located in the 2300 block of county road 239, in Blackwell. It was reported that sometime between Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 11:15AM and Wednesday, August 13, 2012, at 6:30PM, an unknown person(s) used force to enter the residence. Once inside, the thieve(s) rummaged through and ransacked the interior causing an estimated $100.00 in damages.

Early morning crash on Sunday sends two to local hospital

On Sunday, August 12, at approximately 5:30am, NCSO deputies, along with Sweetwater police and fire units, responded to a single vehicle crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer that was blocking both northbound lanes of travel on US84 near county road 138.

It was found, that the tractor-trailer tanker, loaded with milk and traveling southbound on US84, left the roadway and as a result, overturned, then came to a rest partially in the median while blocking both northbound lanes of travel. A short time later, a small passenger vehicle, traveling northbound, drove onto the crash scene and as the driver attempted to avoid a collision, subsequently went into a skid and left the roadway.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to the Rolling Plaines Emergency room by Sweetwater Ambulance Service. Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Robert Regan later arrived and conducted a traffic crash investigation. Texas Department of Transportation and Roscoe Volunteer Firemen also arrived and assisted in traffic control while the tractor-trailer and debris was removed from the area; thereafter the Health Department arrived and conducted a clean-up of the spilt product.

Criminal Mischief (Maryneal)

On Wednesday, August 8, 2012, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of criminal mischief that took place at the Schwerman Trucking terminal located at 402 county road 306, in Maryneal. It was reported that over the past three (3) months, several vehicles have been damaged while parked at the terminal. Damages reported consist of valve stems and tires being cut, pouring of an undetermined type liquid on vehicles causing damage to paint, the scratching of mirror housings, and the denting of body side panels.

Burglary of Habitation (Lake Sweetwater)

On Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at about 1:00PM, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary that took place at a residence located in the 600 block of  county road 245, in Sweetwater. It was reported that sometime between Wednesday, July 4, 2012 and Wednesday, August 1, 2012, an unknown person(s) used force to enter the residence. Once inside, the thieve(s) took three (3) air conditioning units; the thieve(s) also took a chain link dog kennel that was located in a fenced area on the property. The combined value of the items taken is estimated at approximately $2,700.00.

Criminal Mischief, Impair Interrupt Public Service (Maryneal)

On Saturday, July 28, 2012, at about 6:58PM, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of criminal mischief that took place in the 11600 block of Farm to Market Road 608, in Maryneal. It was reported that sometime around 10:00AM, an unknown person shot an Alenco Communications pedestal that housed a fiber optic communications cable. The damage to the pedestal, and cable caused substantial interruption or impairment of public communications to citizens in Maryneal, including critical emergency services. A Buzzi Unicem sign located in the immediate area was also damaged by the vandals.
