On Tuesday, August 7, 2018, Nolan County deputies conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle for a minor traffic infraction in the 800 block of Wall Street, in Sweetwater. Contact was then made with the operator, Antonio Campos Guerra, of Rotan.

During a roadside investigation the deputies detected indicators of criminal activity which led to the discovery of a substantial amount of suspected methamphetamine, and paraphernalia.

Guerra was placed under arrest and transported to the Nolan County jail where he was charged with the felony offense of Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance. This case will be filed with the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

The Nolan County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, in conjunction with the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Division, initiated a year-long investigation involving the distribution of narcotics, namely methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana in Nolan County. The investigation has resulted in multiple indictments against multiple individuals.  More indictments are expected.

The 32^nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office successfully prosecuted the first of those individuals, Daniel Charles Jackson, for (1) Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, (2) Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Heroin), and (3) Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Methamphetamine).

On Tuesday, a jury trial commenced against Mr. Jackson in the 32^nd Judicial District Court of Nolan County, Texas.  On Thursday evening, the jury found Mr. Jackson guilty of all three charges.  On Friday afternoon, the jury sentenced Mr. Jackson to 76 years for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, 75 years for Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Heroin), and 74 years for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Methamphetamine).  While the sentences will run concurrently, because of the Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity charge, Jackson will be required to serve no less than half of the 76-year sentence before being considered for parole.

Some of the co-conspirators are now awaiting trial, with additional arrests and prosecutions expected in relation to this investigation.

“The citizens of Nolan County do not want drug dealers here.  The Sheriff’s Office stands strong with the community against criminals like Mr. Jackson.  The Nolan County Sheriff’s Office, along with its many State and Federal partners will continue efforts to not only disrupt, but also dismantle each and every criminal organization operating within this county,” said Sheriff David Warren.

“I could not be prouder of my dedicated NCSO staff and the team effort with the Texas Department of Public Safety.  The District Attorney’s office did a great job of prosecuting the case and together, we will be making a significant dent in the illegal drug trafficking here in Nolan County.

I especially want to thank the exceptional men and women that served on the jury.  Their diligence and verdict will send a loud message to drug dealers that come here simply to profit by destroying our community,” said Warren.

On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office received a call, from a county resident who reported a “fireman” scam. The caller reported that they received a call, from a man named “Neil,” who claimed to be a volunteer fireman however, they can use any name. The Nolan County resident was told by “Neil” that he had been fighting fires and was collecting monetary donations for the area fire departments. We want to remind everyone that there are no volunteer firemen or first responders that are calling the public asking for any donations. If anyone calls you and claims to be a fireman or first responder that is collecting donations, HANG UP IMMEDIATELY! Then, contact your local law enforcement agency and report the phone call.

We also want for you to be aware that these scammers are calling with “spoofed” telephone numbers; sometimes these numbers are even local numbers that belong to people who you know.

On Monday, April 30, 2018, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office received a call, from a county resident, concerned that they may have been the victim of an identity theft scam.  The caller reported that they received a call, from a man named “David,” who claimed to work for the IRS however, they can use any name.  He called from a phone number which showed on the victim’s caller ID to be from New York State. The Nolan County resident was told by “David” that they owed many years of back taxes; they don’t owe years of back taxes. However, under threat of immediate arrest, they provided “David” with a copy of their driver license and their social security card. They did not, thankfully, send “David” any money, or bank account information.

We want to remind everyone that no official law enforcement agency is EVER going to call you and request personal information over the phone, nor are they going to request that you email any personal information, either.  If anyone calls you and claims that you owe back taxes, have outstanding parking or speeding tickets, or have warrants for your arrest, HANG UP IMMEDIATELY! Then, contact your local law enforcement agency and report the phone call.

These people want your personal information, so they can use it to obtain credit, in your name, for their use. Sometimes, they even want you to send money. These scammers are usually located in a foreign country and call with “spoofed” telephone numbers; sometimes these numbers are even “from your town.”  And normally, the email address they want you to send the information to is not an official government email address, but from a Google or Yahoo email address.

On Tuesday, February 27, 2018, a Nolan County deputy stopped a black Toyota Sequoia in the 100 block of Crane Street for a minor traffic infraction. Contact was then made with the driver, of Sweetwater who was accompanied by Chad Eugene Parsons, also of Sweetwater.

During a roadside investigation, the deputy detected indicators of criminal activity which led to the search of the vehicle, and subsequently the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, and paraphernalia used in its consumption.

Parsons was placed under arrest and transported to the Nolan County jail where he was charged with the felony offense of Possession of Controlled Substance. This case will be filed with the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

On Wednesday, January 24, 2018, Nolan County deputies stopped a red Mazda 6 in the 100 block of McCauley for minor traffic infractions. Contact was then made with the driver, of Sweetwater who was accompanied by two passengers, one being Torionno Terrell Taylor, also of Sweetwater.

While speaking with the driver, indicators of criminal activity were detected, and a roadside investigation ensued which led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, and paraphernalia used in its consumption.

Taylor was placed under arrest and transported to the Nolan County jail where he was charged with the felony offense of Manufacture/Delivery of Controlled Substance. This case will be filed with the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
