Traffic stop leads to two arrests and seizure of hydrocodone, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia

GWILLIAMS-EBURTOn Thursday evening, October 22, 2015, Investigators with the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office were conducting a narcotics investigation that involved a silver Chevrolet truck, and its occupants.

A Sweetwater Police Patrol Sergeant later located and stopped a silver truck matching the description of the suspected vehicle in the 900 block of Hillside, for an unrelated offense. Contact was made with the driver, Ethan Cord Burt, of Sweetwater who was accompanied by passenger Gaylon Lekee Williams, also of Sweetwater.

Nolan County deputies arrived on scene, confirmed on the vehicle and suspects, and assisted Sweetwater Police in a roadside investigation and subsequently a vehicle search.

During the search, a deputy discovered drug paraphernalia and several oval pills determined to be Hydrocodone, concealed in the glove box. A pat down of Williams was then conducted by Sweetwater Police that lead to the discovery of a plastic baggie containing suspected methamphetamine.

Both men were placed under arrest and transported to the Nolan County jail where they were charged with the felony offense of possession of controlled substance. Williams was charged with an additional felony offense of assault/bodily injury. The case will be filed by the Sweetwater Police Department.

Johnson graduates from the WCTCOG Law Enforcement Academy; Class #92

IMG_3548Congratulations to the West Central Texas Council of Governments (WCTCOG) Law Enforcement Academy Graduating Class #92. Today, Monday, August 17, 2015, members of the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office were in attendance to support Brandon Johnson as he graduated.

Johnson (center), pictured with Sheriff David Warren (r) and Chief Deputy David McDonald, is a current employee assigned to the jail section as a county jailer, has expressed his interest in becoming a deputy in the patrol section. After successfully completing seven long months of intensive training at the WCTCOG training facility that consists of lecture halls, tactical training rooms, mock street scenes and much more, he and the rest of his classmates have earned the title of Texas Peace Officer.

Mr. Johnson, we are incredibly proud of your accomplishment; as you graduate, a new world awaits, where you will be tested and challenged with the reward of making a difference. Congratulations on your graduation and best wishes in your law enforcement career!

Traffic stop results in the arrest of two women and recovery of stolen vehicle

starOn Friday, July 31, 2015, Nolan County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that resulted in the arrest of two females and recovery of the vehicle.

At approximately 3:25PM, deputies observed a beige Ford Edge parked at a local business in Sweetwater, that matched the description of a stolen vehicle on a “BOLO” (Be on look-out) from Snyder. After running the license plate, a return of “Wanted” confirmed the deputies suspicions.

After waiting a short time, deputies observed the suspects return to the vehicle and leave the business. A traffic stop was then conducted near the intersection of Louisiana and Bowie; three occupants were contacted and detained as a result of the stop. An investigation was then conducted where deputies would learn that Lisa Gonzales, an occupant in the vehicle, to have an outstanding warrant for an unrelated offense. In furtherance of the investigation, it was found that two other suspects were in a nearby residence, located in the 500 block of Bowie, in Sweetwater.

Sweetwater Police and Nolan County Constable’s Office assisted in the traffic stop.

An investigation was then conducted at the said address, where after making contact with the owner, deputies were allowed to enter the residence and later locate two female suspects, both of Snyder. After deputies made contact with the two females, Vanessa Perkins was found to have provided a fictitious name that lead to the discovery of her being a suspect in the Snyder vehicle theft, as well as having outstanding Scurry County felony warrants. Gonzales was arrested for the outstanding warrant; Perkins was arrested for the offense of Fail to Identify Fugitive from Justice.

The recovered property will be released to the Snyder Police Department, who were investigating the vehicle theft.

A traffic stop results in the recovery of stolen property

starOn Thursday, July 30, 2015, Nolan County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on a pick-up truck that resulted in the recovery of stolen property.

At approximately 3:00PM, deputies stopped Laura Honeycutt, who was known to have an expired driver license. After observing a welding machine in the bed of the truck, an investigation developed where deputies then learned that the machine might be stolen. The welding machine was then seized and the investigation continued at a residence located in the 500 block of West Broadway, where suspect Jorge Trevino Jr. was said to be living. Deputies attempted to make contact, only to speak with Trevino, and learned that upon arriving, he had fled the residence through a rear door. The Sweetwater Police Department, Nolan County Constable’s Office and Department of Public Safety joined deputies in a brief search of the area, but Trevino was unable to be located.

The welding machine was then taken to a residence, located in the 200 block of Grape Street, where after being identified by the owner, it was confirmed the welding machine was in fact stolen. The recovered property was released to detectives of the Sweetwater Police Department, who were investigating the theft.

Six injured in single vehicle crash on I20

1On Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at approximately 4:00PM, deputies were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle crash at the overpass just west of Roscoe at mile 235.

It appeared that the vehicle, a white, Chevrolet sedan had been traveling west when it struck the guardrails on both sides of the bridge before coming to a stop facing east. The vehicle was occupied by a man, woman, teenager and three small children; all were transported to medical facilities by ambulance, with the exception of one adult who was airlifted by helicopter, due to life threatening injuries.
