Structure fire transpires after warrant service attempt

On Friday, March 4, 2016, at approximately 7:00PM, Nolan County deputies responded to a residence located 609 Pease Street, Sweetwater, where Roman Royal, a wanted felon was reported to be hiding. Upon arriving, deputies spoke with Christina Batten, an 18 year-old female and girlfriend of Royal. Deputies later searched the residence but were unable to locate him.

At approximately 10:00PM, deputies along with Sweetwater Police and Fire units responded to the report of a structure fire at the same, 609 Pease Street address. Upon arrival, Sweetwater fire units engaged and were able to successfully extinguish the fire. A preliminary investigation was conducted, and it was found that Royal and Batten had left the residence together just before the fire was detected.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Sweetwater Police Department, the Sweetwater Fire Department and Fire Marshal.

Royal has an outstanding felony warrant issued out of Nolan County for Unauthorized Use of Vehicle, as well as additional out-of-county felony warrants. Nolan County’s Most Wanted Fugitive

The Nolan County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for Roman Angelo Royal, a fugitive who has been hiding to avoid detection by law enforcement. Royal has an outstanding felony warrant issued out of Nolan County for Unauthorized Use of Vehicle, as well as additional out-of-county felony warrants. The Nolan County Sheriff’s Office needs your help to bring Royal to justice. He is a 23 year-old black male, 5’11”, 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Royal will most likely be accompanied by his girlfriend, Christina Batten, a 18 year-old white female, 5’6”, 135 pounds with blonde hair and green eyes. The duo was last known to reside at 609 Pease, Sweetwater.

Capital Murder Suspect Arrested

The Nolan County Sheriff’s Office has recently been assisting the Snyder Police Department and Texas Rangers in the ongoing murder investigation of Justin Vaughn, of Snyder.

After the arrests of Christopher Devon Boyd and Ray Anthony Gutierrez in Nolan County, the Midland County Sheriff’s Office reported that a third suspect, Jammie Akeem Pruitt, 26, was also arrested on a Capital Murder charge for the death of Justin Vaughn.

On Friday, February 26, 2016, after receiving information that Pruitt was inside a Midland home, surveillance was setup and his presence was verified. At approximately 4:30PM, members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force took Pruitt into custody in the 900 block of College Avenue, without incident.

Traffic Stop leads to two arrests and seizure of suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia used in its consumption

On Sunday, February 21, 2016, at approximately 5AM, a Nolan County deputy stopped a red Ford SUV for a minor traffic infraction. Contact was made with the driver, Regino Franco, who was accompanied by passenger, Rebecca Juarez, both of Sweetwater.

During a roadside investigation, the deputy detected indicators of criminal activity; thereafter consent to search the vehicle was requested and received. A Texas State Technical College police officer arrived and assisted the deputy, while a search of the vehicle was conducted that subsequently lead to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia used in is consumption.

Mr. Franco and Ms. Juarez were placed under arrest and transported to the Nolan County jail where they were both charged with the felony offense of possession of methamphetamine. This case will be filed with the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Welfare Check leads to an arrest and seizure of suspected methamphetamine

On Saturday, February 20, 2016, at approximately 8PM, a Nolan County deputy located a gray Ford SUV that was parked in the dark on county road 220. The deputy stopped to check on the welfare of the occupants, where contact was made with the driver, who was accompanied by passenger Amy Hobbs, of Sweetwater.

While speaking with the occupants, indicators of criminal activity were detected and consent to search the vehicle was requested and received. During the investigation, suspected methamphetamine was seized after finding it had been tampered with.

Ms. Hobbs was placed under arrest and transported to the Nolan County jail where she was charged with the felony offense of tampering with physical evidence. This case will be filed with the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

On Thursday, February 18, 2016, at approximately 8:00am, a Nolan County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a white Ford F350, for a minor traffic infraction in the 3200 block of East Broadway, Sweetwater. Contact was made with the driver, Marcus Buckaloo, of Irving who was accompanied by Stephanie Henthorne, of Hamlin. During a roadside investigation, indicators of criminal activity were detected and consent to search the vehicle was attained. During the search, suspected marijuana packaged for sale and paraphernalia used in the consumption of methamphetamine was discovered. Both occupants were arrested and transported to the Nolan County jail where they were charged with the misdemeanor offense of possession of marijuana. The case will be filed with the Nolan County Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
