Traffic stop leads to an arrest and seizure of methamphetamine

TARWATER, JACKIE THOMASOn Monday, July 27, 2015, at approximately 8pm, several infractions prompted the stop of an S10 truck in Sweetwater, leading to the arrest of one occupant and seizure of a substance deputies determined to be methamphetamine, paraphernalia used in its consumption and electronic equipment.

A Nolan County deputy stopped a white S10 truck in the 900 block of Elm Street for several traffic and equipment infractions. Contact was made with the driver who was accompanied by passenger Jackie Tarwater, of Sweetwater. Both men were requested to exit the vehicle where a roadside investigation could be conducted.

While speaking with the men, the deputy became concerned after receiving conflicting stories in regard to property he saw inside the vehicle, whereupon he requested and was denied consent to search. During the investigation, information was received justifying a “probable cause” search.

A search of the vehicle was conducted which lead to the discovery of a large amount of suspected methamphetamine, concealed under the passenger seat, paraphernalia used in its consumption and electronic equipment.

Tarwater was arrested and transported to the Nolan County jail where he was charged with the felony offense of manufacture/delivery of methamphetamine. The case will be filed with the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
