Pursuit ends in an arrest and seizure of methamphetamine

MEDINA, STEVENOn Saturday, August 29, 2015, Nolan County deputies arrested a Sweetwater man and seized a large quantity of what deputies determined to be methamphetamine, after a warrant service turned into a motor vehicle pursuit.

At approximately 1pm, Nolan County deputies located and attempted to arrest Steven Medina, of Sweetwater who had an outstanding felony warrant. Medina was found seated in a red Dodge truck parked on James Street, and before he could be contacted, he sped off in the vehicle. Deputies pursued Medina through several Sweetwater neighborhoods before turning on Vards Lane where he was confronted head on by another deputy, forcing him to skid to a stop.

Medina jumped from the vehicle and fled the area on foot into a residence where he attempted to elude pursuing deputies. Medina was quickly located and taken into custody, but began complaining of wounds to his right leg. Sweetwater Ambulance Service was contacted and later arrived on scene where Medina was treated, medically cleared and released.

A search of the area inside the residence where Medina was located as well as the vehicle he was driving was conducted which lead to the discovery of a large quantity of methamphetamine and paraphernalia used in its consumption.

Medina was transported to the Nolan County jail where he was charged with the felony offenses of evading arrest/detention with vehicle and manufacture/delivery of methamphetamine. The case will be filed with the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Traffic stop leads to an arrest and seizure of methamphetamine

HONEYCUTT, LAURA LEEOn Friday, August 28, 2015, at approximately 450pm, an expired registration decal prompted the stop of a Toyota truck in Sweetwater, leading to the arrest of one occupant and seizure of a substance determined to be methamphetamine.

A Nolan County deputy stopped a black Toyota Tundra driven by Laura Honeycutt, of Sweetwater for expired registration in the 300 block of Neff Street. She was accompanied by passenger, also of Sweetwater. Both occupants were requested to exit the vehicle where a roadside investigation could be conducted.

While speaking with Honeycutt, indicators of criminal activity were observed. Additionally, during the last contact with Honeycutt, the deputy had recovered stolen property from the same vehicle; consent to search was requested and received. A search of the vehicle was conducted which lead to the discovery of a substance determined to be methamphetamine.

Honeycutt was placed under arrest and transported to the Nolan County jail where she was charged with the felony offense of possession of methamphetamine. The case will be filed with the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Traffic stop leads to an arrest and seizure of a large amount of marijuana

MCCANN, JARVIS MARQUISEOn Friday, August 28, 2015, a traffic violation prompted the stop of a Dodge truck in Sweetwater, that lead to seizure of a large amount of suspected marijuana and the arrest of a Sweetwater man.

A Nolan County deputy stopped a white Dodge truck driven by Jarvis McCann, of Sweetwater in the 900 block of Sam Houston for a disregard stop sign violation. When the deputy approached the vehicle, he noticed a small child in the bed of the truck; he could also smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the interior while speaking with McCann, justifying a “probable cause” search.

During the traffic stop, Nolan County communications received information from the Sweetwater Police Department regarding citizen complaints of a white Dodge truck stopping at several residences and conducting what was believed to be drug transactions. This information was relayed to the deputy conducting the stop.

A search of the vehicle was conducted which lead to the initial discovery of a usable amount of suspected Marijuana. The deputy continued the search and located a natural compartment area within the vehicle filled with numerous small bags of suspected Marijuana that appeared to be packaged for sale.

McCann was placed under arrest and transported to the Nolan County jail where he was charged with the felony offense of delivery of Marijuana in a drug free zone. The child was released to the mother who arrived on scene after being contacted by deputies. The case will be filed with the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Unauthorized Use of Vehicle (Maryneal)

The Nolan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a stolen Mack truck that was taken from the Buzzi Unicem Cement plant located in Maryneal. It was reported that on Friday, August 14, 2015, at approximately 4:39PM, an unknown person took a white 2001 Mack roll-off truck (used to haul roll-off containers). The vehicle, shown in the image without a container was driven off the property, and has no license plate(s). It has an estimated value of approximately $85,000.00 to $100,000.00, and is registered to Lone Star Industries, Inc., Maryneal, Texas. The vehicle was last seen traveling west on FM 608.

Johnson graduates from the WCTCOG Law Enforcement Academy; Class #92

IMG_3548Congratulations to the West Central Texas Council of Governments (WCTCOG) Law Enforcement Academy Graduating Class #92. Today, Monday, August 17, 2015, members of the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office were in attendance to support Brandon Johnson as he graduated.

Johnson (center), pictured with Sheriff David Warren (r) and Chief Deputy David McDonald, is a current employee assigned to the jail section as a county jailer, has expressed his interest in becoming a deputy in the patrol section. After successfully completing seven long months of intensive training at the WCTCOG training facility that consists of lecture halls, tactical training rooms, mock street scenes and much more, he and the rest of his classmates have earned the title of Texas Peace Officer.

Mr. Johnson, we are incredibly proud of your accomplishment; as you graduate, a new world awaits, where you will be tested and challenged with the reward of making a difference. Congratulations on your graduation and best wishes in your law enforcement career!

Traffic stop leads to an arrest, seizure of methamphetamine, a firearm and ammunition

ROGERS, RYAN CASEYOn Thursday, August 13, 2015, at approximately 10:35pm, a minor traffic infraction prompted the stop of a Honda coupe in Sweetwater that led to seizure of suspected methamphetamine, paraphernalia used in its consumption, a weapon, ammunition and the arrest of a Sweetwater man.

A Nolan County deputy stopped a blue Honda for a minor traffic violation in the 200 block of Cedar, Sweetwater. Contact was made with the driver who was accompanied by passenger Ryan Rogers, of Sweetwater. Both men were requested to exit the vehicle where a roadside investigation could be conducted.

Both men were pat down for officer safety, and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia; consent to search the vehicle was requested and received. A search of the vehicle was conducted which lead to the discovery of a loaded firearm, concealed underneath the passenger seat and a magazine loaded with ammunition.

Rogers who was found to be a convicted felon was arrested and transported to the Nolan County jail where he was charged with the felony offense of unlawful possession of firearm by felon.

During the roadside investigation, the deputy had observed a great deal of movement by Rogers while seated in the patrol vehicle. After removing Rogers from the vehicle and releasing him to jail staff, a search of the rear cabin area was conducted where a container filled with suspected methamphetamine was discovered. Rogers will also be charged with the felony offense of possession of methamphetamine. The case will be filed with the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
