Communications |
The
communications section operates 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week, and is the direct link between the citizens of
Nolan County and law enforcement officers in the field.
Under the leadership of Sergeant
, the communications section is staffed by 6 Telecommunicators,
(also referred to as Dispatchers or Communications Officers)
that are considered the "first" first responder,
who receive calls from citizens needing assistance and
are required to provide accurate and complete information
to emergency personnel in a timely manner.
To achieve this objective, Telecommunicators
operate multiple programs, answer emergency and non-emergency
calls, monitor multiple radio frequencies, prioritize
calls received and forward information to emergency
personnel. (e.g. Fire and Rescue, Parks & Wildlife
Services, County Patrol, Highway Patrol, etc.) During
severe weather, Telecommunicators notify and communicate
with other resources as necessary (e.g. County Precincts,
TXDOT, utility companies, wreckers, etc), this all being
done at a fast demanding pace.
Essential Job Functions:
- Receive and screen routine and emergency
telephone calls for fire and law enforcement.
- Receive routine and emergency law
enforcement and fire radio traffic on assigned radio
channels.
- Enter data into Communication Assisted
Dispatch (CAD) computer system.
- Operate various voice radio frequency
channels.
- Operate multi-line telephone system.
- Follow strict guidelines of policies
and procedures of the Nolan County Sheriff's Office.
