Organized in
1983, Nolan
County Crime Stoppers is a registered, non-profit
charitable organization structured as a working alliance
between the community, the media, and various law enforcement
agencies. The program provides a medium for tipsters wishing
to remain anonymous and provide valuable information to
assist law enforcement in their investigations.
Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to call display "caller
ID" and phone lines are not recorded, thus encourages
people to call with information to solve crimes already
committed, crimes about to occur, or tips on the whereabouts
of wanted persons. Tipsters
calling Crime Stoppers are assigned a confidential code
number; thereafter contact with the program is by means
of the code number. Crime Stoppers callers never have
to identify themselves "totally anonymous"
or give evidence in court "no testimony" and
are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.00. The
type of crime solved, number of arrests, etc. will determine
the amount of the reward.
Rewards are not funded by tax dollars; the money for
the operation of Crime Stoppers and rewards is raised
from the private sector by Members of the Board of Crime
Stoppers. The Board is comprised of citizens throughout
the county.
