The Criminal
Investigations section serves the citizens of Nolan County
by conducting prompt and diligent investigations into
serious felony and misdemeanor offenses, as well as locating
missing persons and the recovery of stolen property.
The section is staffed by professional law enforcement
personnel who are dedicated to bringing cases to a successful
conclusion and are responsible for all crime scene processing,
photography, forensic evidence gathering and handling,
and the investigation of approximately 250 incidents
per year, and this figure is ever increasing. "Incidents"
typically are major investigations that range anywhere
from thefts, burglaries, robberies, computer crimes,
fraud, identity theft, sex offenses, crimes against
children, high level assaults, homicide, suicide, and
narcotics violations.
The section also conducts extensive background investigations
for applicants, handle all Internal Investigations dealing
with complaints against employees, and maintain the
strict measures for the receipt, handling, security,
preservation and disposition of all property and evidence.
Additionally, the section conducts checks and follow-up
investigations to ensure that sexual offenders residing
in the unincorporated areas of the county are in compliance
with the Texas Sex Offender Registration Program, and
secure criminal charges as warranted.
During large scale criminal investigations, Investigators
often work in collaboration with other area, state and
federal law enforcement agencies in order to pool resources
and effectively solve crimes, apprehend high-threat
criminals, dismantle organized criminal organizations,
and reduce the threat of mass attacks in public places.
