SALARY:
$6,005.89 monthly or $34.65 per hour (after probationary
period)
ANNUAL CERTIFIED SALARY: $72,070.68
Standard probationary period of
6 months during which time salary is reduced by $50.00
per month.

SHIFT: Ability to work any shift including
nights, weekends and holidays with varying days off.
Investigators typically work 8am to 5pm with an hour
for meal break during the shift.and two days off.
REGULAR PAYDAYS: Pay day is every two
weeks on Friday. There are 26 pay days per calendar
year. If a pay day falls on a holiday or weekend; payroll
will be issued the business day preceding the holiday
or weekend.
PAID OVERTIME: Any overtime is paid on each paycheck.
Overtime paid at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate.
Beginning October 1, 2024, there is a $10,000.00 annual
state grant supplement as part of the salary figure
listed above. Base county salary is $62,070.68.
LICENSE REQUIRED: Applicants for the
CID Sergeant Investigator position with
the Nolan County Sheriff's Office must already be a
Certified Texas Peace Officer with a minimum of five
(5) years continuous service as a full-time, sworn law
enforcement officer; possess advanced working knowledge
of investigative practices and techniques including
interviewing and interrogation practices; the identification,
collection and processing of evidence; and the laws
and practices governing custody, searches and seizures
of persons and property.
RESIDENCY: The CID Sergeant
Investigator is required to reside within the boundaries
of Nolan County. However, variances for living outside
the county, within a very limited radius, may be approved
on a case-by-case basis by the Sheriff but could affect
take home vehicle use.
LONGEVITY PAY: $5.00 per month for each year of completed service after five years;
6-10 years of service = $10.00 per month for each year of completed service;
10-15 years of service = $15.00 per month for each year of completed service and thereafter.
HEALTH, DENTAL AND LIFE INSURANCE: Excellent major medical health insurance (currently Blue Cross/Blue Shield) is provided for the employee at no cost. Dental insurance coverage is also provided for the employee as well as a $10,000 life insurance policy. Dependent health and dental coverages are available with monthly premiums paid by the employee.
LEAVE TIME: 80 hours of vacation per year. (120 hrs. of vacation per year after 10 years of County service);
13 paid holidays (8 hrs. per holiday - 104 hours annually);
8 hours of sick leave accumulated per month up to a maximum of 480 hours.
RETIREMENT: Texas County and District Retirement System (TCDRS). Approximately 7% held out of paycheck and Nolan County contributes $1.70 for each dollar the employee has withheld.
UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT: Uniforms, coats, duty rig, ballistic vest, radio, weapons and Individually assigned, very well equipped, take home fleet vehicles are provided. Weapons include semi-auto pistols for both on and off duty, semi-auto tactical patrol rifle and tactical pump shotgun.
NATURE OF WORK: The CID SERGEANT INVESTIGATOR
works as a non-uniformed Deputy Sheriff and supervises
a criminal investigator, while performing criminal investigative
work involving the investigation of crimes related to
narcotics, the detection and prevention of violations
of the law, the securing of evidence, the apprehension
and prosecution of criminal offenders and the presentation
of evidence in court. Must use considerable judgment
and discretion in obtaining and analyzing facts and
interpreting the law to specific cases. Additionally,
the applicant must possess the ability to preserve digital
evidence, analyze data and record the results. The knowledge
of using forensic tools and software is preferred. Work
is performed in accordance with established departmental
policies and procedures, local ordinances, state statutes,
and federal laws. Duties are performed under the supervision
of the Sheriff and Chief Deputy and are evaluated in
terms of the effectiveness in solving crimes.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Require
visual acuity in both eyes correctable to 20/30 vision,
normal color vision, good accommodation and no field
deficits; hear in-person, radio and telephone conversations;
recognize differences or changes in sound patterns,
loudness or pitch; speak audibly and clearly; identify
and distinguish smells of different materials; sit or
stand for prolonged periods; walk, run, kneel, stoop,
crawl and crouch; make precise and coordinated finger,
hand and limb movements; maintain uniform, controlled
hand-arm posture or movement; push, pull or drag an
adult (averaging 5'6", 160 pounds); lift and carry
boxes of evidence (average 50 pounds); use force to
restrain/subdue others; work efficiently for long periods
of time.
In addition, the CID Sergeant
Investigator may be required to use bodily force to
gain control of individual(s), be able to run, protect
him/herself by employing defensive tactics, and administer
first aid. Performance of these tasks can involve maximum
physical exertion with little or no prior notice, and
possibly for extended periods of time. May be exposed
to extreme noise levels, occasional exposure to communicable
diseases and may subjected to verbal and physical abuse.
